Do you remember losing your first tooth? I don’t…… however, I do remember losing my upper front tooth. String, door, pull, out, Voila. I received a crisp dollar bill under my pillow the next day. Well..my Manny lost his first tooth today! Can you believe it? He had been fiddling with it for a few days and asked me to pull it out for him at the office but I didn’t want him to miss out on this childhood right of passage so I just let him be.
I got home and he ran up to me pointing out his lower front tooth dangling there just ripe for the picking. I told him to get to work and he pulled and pulled and came up to me with his big brown eyes and begged me to do the honors. I sat him on the basement carpet like an angel and knocked it out with one flick of my index finger and caught it with the gauze in my hand. A few moments later, my Husband arrived home and he ran up to show him his little tooth in his hand. He requested $20 BLOODY dollars from the tooth fairy but we negotiated him down to $1. Kids…
Well like every event in our home we had to celebrate this event with a dance so what’s more appropriate than The Gap Band’s Outstanding (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OquReWEs1Yk).. so this song led to more songs, more songs led to more dancing. More dancing led to a dance party. A Dance party led to a lot of laughs and a very happy time with my little ones.
Speaking of happy, this holiday was just sooooo nice. I got to see all my favorite people and relax. Not just a little itty bitty relaxing but REAL relaxation. First stop was my parents. They just scooped up the kids and keep them entertained just enough so Ibru and I could get some SLEEP! Aaaahhhhh. And we did. My sister, the most awesome Aunt in the world played, played, and played with them so they got some much needed EXTRA attention that they were more than happy to receive. She is all the way out out in Cali so it was nice being around her and having fun with our inside jokes and reminiscing about our childhood.
On New Year’s we rang in an early New Year with our good friends Kat and Evan. Like always Kat outdid herself and made a home-aide New Year’s Eve Ball so all the kids could ring on the New Year at 9pm. They thought it was midnight and were so proud of themselves for staying up so late. Hahaha.
Headed home and celebrated the actual New Year with my favorite in-laws Julie and Birra, and my nieces Marieme and Thilo. Drank , laughed, drank some more and had to go to work the next day so the fun was finally over. I did enjoy that Saturday back to work. I reunited with my staff and some patients that followed me from my previous office. Good times.
Birra and Julie did make a trip to the office before they headed home to Montreal. They liked it and complimented me on the design. Julie, however asked me something that no-one has actually asked me. She looked all around, came to my private office and simply asked me “Are you happy?” Without hesitation I replied. “Yes”. Such a good feeling:)
Oh and one more thing I got the cover of DC Dental Quarterly! Check it out..
